About
Shinmachi in Newtown is an absolute gem. The food here is nothing short of awesome โ every dish feels fresh, full of flavour, and made with real care. The ramen is rich and comforting, while the sides and smaller plates are just as impressive. The vibe of the place is lively but welcoming, and the service matches the quality of the food. Whether youโre after a quick bite or a full sit-down meal, Shinmachi delivers on all fronts. Easily one of the best spots in Newtown for Japanese food. ๐ Shinm

The vegan tan tan was amazing but the vegan curry was too spicy for me, only the eggplant katsu was so good
Delightful restaurant tucked away on the second floor in Newtown. Charmingly intimate in both decor and the warmth of the staff. The food was delish ๐ and heaps of veggie options much appreciated. ๐ณ Takes credit card ๐ป Toilets are down the stairs ๐ฉโ๐ฆฝ Not wheelchair accessible
Was awful japanese restaurant experience ever. The sashimi Omakase set which was $38, absolutely disappointed. How thin they are, please refer to the photos I have attached. I have never seen this kind of sashimi in Sydney. Also, the scallop Sashimi was not fresh at all, and it looked like 3pcs were forced by cutting one scallop into three pieces. To make matters worse, there was a big cockroach on the dining area which was definitely disgusting. Won't be back unfortunately.

๐ Shinmachi Newtown 1/239 King St, Newtown NSW 2042 After a long chilly day out โ๏ธ๐งฃ, we randomly searched on Google and ended up at this little Japanese gem ๐ฏ๐ตโจ โ tucked away upstairs, super cozy, and full of warm vibes. The staff were so friendly and welcoming ๐, service was great, and the food definitely had that authentic touch ๐ฑ๐ต. My highlight? Definitely the agedashi tofu โ crispy outside, silky inside, just perfect ๐คคโจ. The curry don thoughโฆ a bit on the mild side for me ๐๐ , could use a stronger curry kick. The kids loved it too ๐ง๐ง๐ โ especially enjoying the comfy booth seats while we tucked into dinner. All in all, a lovely surprise find that warmed us up after the cold day. ๐ธ๐ฒ
