Doko Yakiniku in Newtown was an incredible experience from start to finish. The quality of the food really stands out, and the presentation of the dishes is beautiful. It was my first time trying Japanese barbecue and I absolutely loved it. I 100% recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.
To be the first time wowwww Such a great Japanese restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully, everything was absolutely delicious and authentic. The service was just as good as the food. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, I felt comfortable and well taken care of the whole time. I left very happy and canโt wait to come back. Highly recommend!

I visited Doko Yakiniku in Newtown and this is easily the prettiest Japanese BBQ restaurant Iโve ever been to. The ambience, the presentation, and the overall dining experience were all on point. We chose the Chefโs Selection for the yakiniku meats, and it was the best decision ever. We got five premium cuts โ Wagyu Flat Meat, Chefโs Special, Wagyu Oyster Plate, Wagyu Rib Finger, and Wagyu Short Rib. Every cut was incredibly fresh with stunning marbling, soft, juicy, fatty, and full of flavour. Truly excellent value for the quality. We also ordered the Hamburg Steak Rice, which was smoky, comforting, and very filling. You could taste the strong charcoal notes in the beef, and it worked beautifully. The Mixed Sashimi Tartare was another highlight โ refreshing, vibrant, and paired with a passionfruit-based sour sauce that Iโve never tried anywhere else. Itโs unique and absolutely worth trying. One of the biggest surprises was the Matcha Cocktail. Iโve tried many matcha-alcohol drinks before, but this one genuinely stands out. No exaggeration โ itโs their bestseller for a reason. Customer service was also great. We even got to meet the chef, which made the experience even more special. Doko is extremely busy, so make sure to book ahead.
walked past this place a week after it opened then came back with a friend to try it a week later! at this point it was my friendโs second time coming and he really liked it too. got the wagyu taster box ($68) & shiitake tempura ($14) to share between two - the wagyu was incredible!!! iโm not familiar with the cuts of meat so it was a great experience. i will be back for a proper serving of the wagyu oyster blade!! the shiitake tempura was nice also ^^ the sauce worked really well and i was surprised at how good it was. could have ordered some more food between the two of us but we were full enough. it was a bit too warm inside especially with the grills going. otherwise, staff were friendly and the place looked nice. iโm excited to come back to try more dishes!
